Man Vs. God
While at a holiday company on Saturday in the San Leandro hills we watch a slight break in the overcast sky just before the sundown start . Looking across the Laurus nobilis to San Francisco with Oakland and Alameda at my feet was a blanced batch of an
spicy overcast sky , waver lights of the cities as well as the warm Sunday bursting through snatch of clouds . Towards the end of shooting I remembered the Giz challenge for this week and thought this would make a unique shot … .. sort of front like a sunset in the world of Tron if I had to guess .
To get the shot , I lowered my exposure compensation down about -1/3 a stop and set the camera to aperature priority and locked that to F/9 . I set the shutter to timekeeper and wait for it to open , I then tardily start pulling back as consistently as I could , I mean the VR feature on the crystalline lens really helped on this one in accession to my all steel 15 lb tripod . Nikon D70 , Nikon 55 - 200 mm VR F/4.0 – 5.6 , ISO 200 , 1.6 secs , f/9 .

Fire Flower
I tried to intend of a picture that would n’t just produce a light speeding affect . I put four candles on a record thespian to lend more direction for the light to go while I zoomed the lens . There were a number of picture from unlike angles and this seemed to be a little like fire tornadoes but I seem to care the course of the flames in this picture the most . I also up the blacks setting in Photoshop somewhat to accent the flame . Shot with a Nikon D90 18 - 200 VR2 Manual setting with f/36 6 sec , ISO 200 .

The View
This was admittedly a quicker - than - I’d - like entrance because I bury to
shoot anything until Sunday evening . So I stepped out on the balcony to take some shots of business district in the sunset . This was a one - 2nd picture on a D90 at f36 , begin at 200 mm and zooming out to about 50 mm .

Keyboard
I was inspired to photograph my Dell Studio 15 laptop ’s keyboard after numerous frustrating hours piece of writing term papers in the dark . I used a Nikon D80 put up on a tripod confront downwards at the LED keyboard ( I covered the screen to prevent light interference ) . I decided to make the missive gee the stress of this piece in a petty endeavour to suck up to Gizmodo . I also tried fixing the G using Photoshop , but it never look quite right so I make up one’s mind to leave it as it is . ( f/5.6 , 1/2 sec , 135 mm , ISO-800 )

The weather in Washington during December is more often than not pretty cheesy . This weekend was a moderately rare courteous weekend so I settle to take a stumble to Second Beach near La Push , Washington . I had never done zoom picture before and was pleasantly surprised with the results . Coming back home was a challenge , there was a head - on accident on US 101 near Lake Crescent which forced me to take a 70 + nautical mile to get back home . pick up the finished result result made the LONG trip totally worth it . Canon Rebel T1i , Canon 10 - 22 mm , 1/25 sec , f/3.5 , ISO 100 , ND 400 neutral density filter

Time Travel
A shot of my sometime warning signal clock while zooming in with my Canon t2i . I had the aperture as small as possible and the ISO low as well , with a medulla oblongata exposure only so I could master exactly when I had finish the zoom . I wish the protrusion / explosion of the lights and I was somewhat inspired by thisxkcdcomic .

WINNER – Millennium Falcon
This contest was a blast . I had the perfect idea , but it terminate up being much more difficult than I anticipated . I used the same technique I con from a old contest on Gizmodo where the guy cable had double exposed a bathroom dip and used a lighter to produce a flaming coming out of the faucet . So I would say this contest I spent a spate of work on . I late had moved my parents to a unexampled sign and receive some old boxwood of toy from my puerility , Star Wars being my favorite . As soon as I saw this competition I knew I was go to attempt to renovate the lightspeed force from the motion-picture show . I grabbed my millennium falcon , a black froth core wild boar , two strands of icicle christmas lights , a roll of tape , weed whopper line ( could n’t line up fishing line ) a distich chair , a some books . All of which I will explain .
So I intercept all the light to the foam core board and rank it up against a wall . Next I took two chairwoman and tied pot whacker short letter across from one to the other and position the falcon on them . I expend forever trying dissimilar ways to get it to look good , but it just was n’t cutting it . Finally I decide to remove the lights from the center of the dining table in an attempt to only get low-cal trails AROUND the millenary falcon because they keep going through the ship . So here come the shot . I jell the pic for 30 seconds to buy myself some clock time to move thing around etc . I flip the foam gist board so it was clean , turned all the lights off , and set the flash on . I zoomed in so the ship was full frame , then take on the depiction , I apace covered the lens , flipped the board over , plugged in the christmas Light Within and depart to whizz out slowly . ( making sure to unveil the lens only after I had started to zoom out ) . The upshot was PERFECT ! I used photoshop to remove the shining red weed whopper line and get rid of the one light that made it through the ship . Nikon D300s , Nikkor 18 - 70 mm , Tripod , Cokin Filter set with ND2 , ND4 , and Circular polarizer , 30 second exposure at f29 ISO 200

Super originative entries this week . And while I broadly speaking avoid eccentric stereotypes like Star Wars , Star Trek , etc , take on all the glory , I cerebrate Naylor ’s technique was an ingenious solution to something most of us would n’t have defy without Photoshop .
