Come summer , one of the good butt for some expert erstwhile - fashioned British whinging is always air travel – the uncomfortableness , the recollective queue , the freakishly cheery faculty . But I promise you , no matter how much you might want to gripe , your journeying wo n’t suck nearly as bad as this guy , who ’s trying to take flight from Australia to Britain , in a Cessna , using the content of a landfill as fuel . Right .
The design is for Jeremy Rowsell to vanish from Sydney to London , via Asia , the Middle East , and Europe . His 10,500 nautical mile epic will be completed in a teensy little Cessna , and the superpower will fare from charge plate . Specifically , it ’ll issue forth from diesel fuel , which can be refined from so - called End - of - Life plastics – the plastic that would otherwise just end up in landfills .
If you ’re interested , the glum magic of turning old binbags into tasty diesel is acheived by cautiously heating charge plate in the absence of oxygen ( called pyrolysis . ) This yields a product that ’s fundamentally the same as refined petroleum . From there , it ’s just a matter of using fractional distillment ( just the same as in the oil industry ) to get whatever hydrocarbon mathematical product you require , include diesel . As an added incentive , fuels produced by the outgrowth are slightly cleaner and right than you get from older - fashioned out - of - the - ground oil .

The idea of the six - day tripper is to raise awareness of the charge plate - into - useful - hooey engineering ( whilst presumably reminding Mr Rowsell of the benefits of elephantine jets ) . Mind you , it ’s not exactly going to be an eco - favorable trip : charge plate from all of his layover points along the trip-up is being shipped to Dublin , where it ’s being converted and then shipped back .
veridical dubiousness is , who ’s volunteer to fly the woodworking plane back ? [ Telegraph ]
