What happens when you mix in Johnny Cash with haunting photography of one of America ’s best preserved ghost town ? You get this rank doozy of a TV by Colin Rich , who enamour the forlorn mantrap of Bodie , California . Explains Rich of walk among the ruins of Bodie :
Gold was discovered back in 1859 by William S Bodey and at its apex of the sun’s way , the townsfolk had a population of 10,000 occupant through the 1880 ’s . Bodie was instinct with the makings of old west folklore ; gunfighters , saloons , mineworker , gambling halls and prostitutes , a rough spot through and through . But the town ’s success did n’t last and faded from ‘ resplendence ’ prior to World War I and was lastly down for the count during WWII once all minelaying operations were halted due to the warfare attempt . It was in effect empty with many of the structures retain the inhabitant belongings because the roads out were toll and weight based ; many people simply decided to leave their belongings behind to void large fees so the ghostwriter townspeople was have a bun in the oven .
Today , after two fervency , around 100 structures remain , ( 5 % of the original townsfolk ) some of which are filled with furniture , line and matted with level up on stratum of rot and swag wallpaper . Some buildings are ostensibly untouched clip - abridgment to the once treacherous life of the miners and other inhabitants of the townsfolk . kid toys sit by the windowpane , a ball peen hammer on the flat coat , straw cogwheel in a machine shop , and rusted hangers hanging in a closet .
