The image on the top is NGC 6302 , a dying whiz 3,800 weak year from us . The starring butterfly is formed by the material ejected from the star , two gas hells howl at 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit , and traveling at 600,000 miles an hour . Not a good space to spend your next holiday , but one heck of a view .
It was taken by the new Wide Field Camera 3 , which was installed during the missionary post . This tv camera has replaced the WFPC2 , adding a 2d channel in the near - infrarred chain . It covers the visible spectrum , part of the skinny - ultraviolet , and constituent of the nigh - infrared , complementing the infrared groove , which goes from 800 to 1700 nanometers . With these two channels , WFC3 will accomplish excellent panchromatic ( full – spectrum ) imaging . Stellar object are not just in the seeable spectrum , but also exist in the blue ( near - ultraviolet light ) and blood-red ( near - IR ) extremes . WFC3 was designed to canvass light in these regions of the spectrum good than Hubble ’s current capacity .
