AMC has greenlit Dan Simmons ’ novel The Terror as a 10 - episode anthology serial , with plans to release the serial in 2017 .
According to Deadline , the series is a joint projection from Ridley Scott ’s Scott Free Productions , Alexandra Milchan ’s Emjag Productions , Entertainment 360 and AMC Studios , and will be written by David Kajganich .
The taradiddle is a fictionalized account of the Franklin Expedition in 1845 , during which the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were lose . ( The wreck of the Erebus was pick up in 2014 ) . In Simmons ’ novel , Franklin and his gang present numerous challenges after both ships are bust up , and are plagued by famishment , scurvy , mutiny and cannibalism , all the while they ’re stalked by a monster .

The serial publication has been indevelopment since 2013 , and it seems that we ’ll finally get to see it before too long . What ’s interesting about this project is how it ’s being placard as an ‘ anthology ’ show – like straight Detective or American Horror Story , we ’re guessing that this will be a self - contain season or a miniseries . Either way , we ’re pump .
