Back in March , Italian doctors were face up with a situation in which a baby — who has n’t been identified — would not be able to make it until the point at which a real heart would be available for transplantation . So , the medic made the bluff decision to essay and implant the world ’s small ( and presumably most adorable ) artificial heart , to tide the youngster over . Antonio Amodeo , from the Bambino Gesu Hospital in Rome , explain to AFP :
“ The machine , a titanium ticker weighing only 11 gramme and that can endure a menses of up to 1.5 litres per minute , was used in an emergency sheath of a 16 - calendar month - old infant hurt from dilated cardiomyopathy with a serious infection of the ventricular aid machine that had been embed antecedently . ”
