British designers James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau have contrive a form of household robots that feed on innocent pests to generate mogul — and to last long after their human owners choke . And , they look just like article of furniture .
Auger and Loizeau design a fly - trapping lamp that can be lit by digesting the insects attracted to its light ; a board designed to catch and compilation rodents to power its trap door and light-emitting diode video display ; a clock that run on insects for great power ; and an art firearm designed to attract spider and recycle their killing . All of the furniture is design to hill menage pest while immix in with one ’s existing decor . Picutred below is the “ lamp shade robot , ” which emulates the killing methods of the pitcher works . Bugs are lured into its lighted Interior Department , then consumed for fuel that keeps the lamp well-lighted .
Other designs include flypaper on a conveyor rap that power a clock ( above ) , and a coffee board that eats blighter that land on its Earth’s surface .

Not slaked to just kill pests , Auger has a larger goal . He tell New Scientist :
Although , for now , the automaton bank on briny power , Auger believes they could become genuinely self - sufficient . “ If the organization neglect , the grid goes down and all man drop dead , these robots could go on live so long as the flies do n’t go with us . ”
That ’s proper : Auger designed his robots to go on long after we go off the grid by continuing to feed on whatever soma can power its fuel cell . That seems like an fantabulous programme .
