President Donald Trumpis praising his daughter and senior adviserIvanka Trumpfor having “created millions of jobs.”

Trump, 72, made the claim early Monday morning during a speech to the bipartisan National Governor’s Association at the White House.

“My daughter has created millions of jobs. I don’t know if anyone knows that, but she’s created millions of jobs,” Trump added without saying exactly how Ivanka is responsible for the significant increase in work.

The President then went on to explain that last year his administration created the National Council for the American Worker, which Ivanka co-chaired along with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

The council’s goal is to ask companies in the US to sign the Pledge to America’s Workers — a commitment “to expand programs that educate, train, and reskill American workers from high school age to near-retirement,” according to the White House.

“We’ve gained commitments from private sector leaders to hire and train more than 6.5 million Americans. Think of it: 6.5 million. And these are jobs that, for the most part, would not have happened,” Trump continued on Monday.

“Historic low unemployment rates have created opportunity for millions of Americans. A record 73% of people who previously were out of work and not looking for a job, came OFF of the sidelines and into the workforce in Q4 2018,” Ivanka wrote.

“This is the highest share of people entering our labor force from the sidelines EVER!”

“Today we met with the Nation’s Governors to discuss how we can work together to ensure all students + workers have the skills needed to fill the 7.3 million job openings,” Ivanka added.

President Trump’s claim, however, isn’t accurate, according to CNN as the program doesn’t actually create jobs, but instead provides proper job training to people entering the workforce.

When asked what jobs Trump’s daughter is responsible for and how she created them, the White House told PEOPLE that Ivanka has created numerous opportunities but did not quantify the number of jobs.

Trump’s bold boast also prompted a number of social media users to slam him and Ivanka on Twitter.

“Ivanka Trumpbefore joining the WH was a boutique scarf designer. She unequivocally did not create 100s, let alone millions, of jobs,” attorney Greg Sarafantweeted.

“Beyond parody: Trump claimsIvanka Trump‘has created millions of jobs,” journalist Aaron Rupartweeted.

“Trump just told one of his biggest lies ever claiming Ivanka’s created ‘millions of jobs.’ No she hasn’t. And the jobs she HAS created involved children working in labor camps to make cheap shoes that she stole the design for and got sued over. Ivanka is worse than her father,” Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the Democratic Coalitionwroteon Twitter.

The backlash comes just a few days after Ivanka was hit with a wave of criticism against her on Twitter as other users were quick to note that an administration labeling itself a “driver for science” has in fact been far from that.

“For the past two years, the Trump Administration has been an active and meaningful driver for science and technology policy in America,” the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)tweeted on Feb 21.

Last June, the paper reported, “The lack of traditional scientific advisory leadership in the White House is one example of a significant change in the Trump administration: the marginalization of science in shaping United States policy.”

Both the departments of state and agriculture were without top scientists and other agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, had broken up advisory groups on climate science, according to theTimes.

“I don’t think there’s ever been a time in the post-World War II period where issues as important as nuclear weapons are on the table, and there is no serious scientist there to help the president through the thicket,” Princeton University professor Michael Oppenheimer told the paper. “This reverberates throughout policy.”

The White House declined to comment at the time.
