Magical artifacts do n’t just countenance you do cool material and play games with the world — they change you , as a person . That ’s been a bit of a bunk theme lately on Warehouse 13 , and it came to a principal last night .
In the two - minute time of year finis , we saw several character uncovering their unfeigned natures — double , in the case of H.G. Wells — and revealing who they were late down . And we learned that even though artifacts may exchange you , what really matters is the selection you make . Spoilers beforehand …
unfeigned to form this season , the Warehouse 13 season finale was much more about the characters than about plot devices . If you were expecting a complicated or fancy conclusion to the time of year - farsighted plot line involving Walter Sykes and his small-scale army of hench - people , then you might have been disappoint .
Those nanites that Sykes put into the Warehouse ? deal with in five minute . Sykes ’ program ? Sheer elegance in its chasteness . Is Steve Jinks really a traitor ? No , of course not . How do we get to the bottom of Sykes ’ scheme ? Mostly by keeping an eye out for the Eye of Horus all over the place , plus doing the old “ change the rules in the chess game biz ” thing . ( I was desire someone would say“the sinister and white pawns join forcefulness ! ” ) And so on .
But what the episode lacked in plot cleverness , it made up for in characterization . There really does seem to have been a concerted decision this year on Warehouse 13 to focus on the persona and their relationships , instead of trying to make the puzzler and artefact of the week more and more fiendishly cagy .
And the first hour of last Nox ’s two - hour coda really set the root word for the evening , of rightful self . Walter Sykes ’ nanites have gotten him a secret Regent file cabinet that leads to the placement of H.G. Wells — who ’s had her store and most of her personality pass over , Dollhouse - style , so that she ’s now a schoolteacher named Emily Lake . We never really get to see enough of Emily ’s life to tell if this was a decent trade - off , but at least it ’s better than being bronze again . Emily Lake is a bit of a wuss , unlike the genuine H.G. , but she ’s a nice schoolteacher with a cute cat — is that cat doomed now ? Who ’s going to front after him ? possibly the Warehouse can take in him , to go with the dog ? ( Oh shit . I just gain the dog is in all likelihood dead . )
Anyway , Sykes desire to put H.G. Wells ’ genuine personality back in her body , so she can help oneself them afford the Sanctum , which is essentially a back room access to the Warehouse . And Pete argue that they should destroy the magic coin that keep H.G. Wells stuck in her Modern personality , so that she can never be rejuvenate to normal — with Claudia and Myka disagreeing . So they need H.G. Wells herself — and she agree that yes , the coin should be destroy , and her true ego along with it . By agree to become a faux translation of herself forever and a day , H.G. is in reality showing her truthful colors — she ’s not the horrible earth - destroyer she became last time of year , she ’s actually a noble , self - sacrificing individual . Something which fare up again , at the end of the episode .
Meanwhile , that first hour is also the set - up for Steve Jinks to reveal his on-key nature as well — he ’s actually been on our side all along , not amazingly . And he ’s go undercover with Walter Sykes , to find out Sykes ’ “ endgame . ” And it turns out that Steve Jinks is the Regents ’ entire program for shell out with Sykes .
I have to say , for all the talk about how pitiless and indurate the Regents are , they are n’t very ruthless when it counts . Steve has numerous chances to kill Walter Sykes , after which his unkillable henchman Marcus will just be a minor annoyance . But Pete ’s mom , Jane Lattimer , keep saying stuff like “ We ca n’t kill Sykes until we bonk what his end game is . ” ( really , you really can . It ’s lawful that Sykes might have set in movement some hooey that would carry on after his death , but it ’s more probable that his plans would fall apart without him there to finish them — as , indeed , work out to be the case . )
In any character , Steve ’s heavy reveal is that he ’s just what he originally appear — a good , nice agent who wants to protect others ( like Claudia ) from the same direful fate that befell his sis . He ’s put himself in the line of fire to save the Warehouse , and it ends up costing him his life . ( And yes , it ’s sad that yet another gay character on television had to touch an untimely end . But at least Steve died a poor boy . Sort of . )
In reception to Steve ’s death , Claudia faces a big test of who she is as well — and we ’re not sure how well she ’s going to pass . She retrovert to the bitter old Claudia , who lashes out at Jane Lattimer and refuses to talk to Artie or Mrs. Frederic about what ’s locomote on . Her heartache gets transformed directly into brokenheartedness , and we pop out reckon none of the Claudia who has the bright future that H.G. Wells talks about , right before she thinks her magic coin is about to be destroyed .
And at the end of the episode , Mrs. Frederic needs to take back the metronome from Claudia — presumably to try and get Marcus to assist save the Warehouse — and Claudia refuses because she ’s save it for Steve Jinks . So the ostensible death of Mrs. Frederic , and the destruction of the warehouse — more on that in a here and now — is partly on Claudia . ( Although it ’s really unclear what ’s supposed to be bechance in that scene , and what precisely Mrs. Frederic wants the metronome for . )
As for Walter Sykes himself , his usage of artifacts is really bring out as well — he ’s bitter and murderous because Jane Lattimer and the Warehouse work party took away his Collodi Bracelet , which not only cured his impairment but also allowed him to be a superb jock and maybe have a calling in pro baseball game . But the Collodi Bracelet does n’t just give you a levelheaded body , with soulfulness - sucking side - effects — it ’s really made from the strings of a puppet , meaning that you ’re master your own body like a puppet - master . And now that Walter is all grow up and still wheelchair - bound , his favored artefact is Cecil B. DeMille ’s riding crop , which allows him to control other people ’s physical structure — it ’s ascendancy he craves , not mobility or exemption .
So Walter is lashing out at the Warehouse keepers and the Regents , who are the ultimate control junky themselves , wanting to keep all these powerful objects under wraps in the centre of nowhere . And he ’s only really stopped because our crew show who they really are — including Pete finally instruct to love and prize his mother , while still pilfer around behind her back enquire hooey . ( And how great was the Pete Cave ? ) And Myka designate her religion in H.G. Wells , helping H.G. to find oneself the resources inside herself to figure out the chess puzzler — while still insisting their partnership will be called Bering and Wells . Not to note Jane Lattimer herself , decking Walter while referencing the Ali - Frazier fight . All nifty material .
And then there ’s Artie , who ’s engender the great question Deutschmark hang over his heading . Exactly how wily is Artie ? Did he compute out what was hail and keep an ace in the hole ? Is MacPherson ’s sac watch operate to rove back time and save the day , or otherwise allow Artie to fix everything ? ( And will this be the second Warehouse 13 season to end with a vainglorious explosion in which it turns out Artie has a magic get - out - of - jail - liberal card that MacPherson gave him in his sack ? )
We ’ll find out next summer — for now , the body counting is pretty eminent . H.G. Wells , Mrs. Frederic , Steve Jinks … half our favourite characters are apparently dead , and the Warehouse itself is toast . Which would only mean Artie has to start over , which is half the fun .
