I ’ve been walking around with a Fitbit Zip in my pocket for the last calendar week , most of the time draw a blank it ’s there . Then remember , see , and realizing how lazy I ’ve been . Is this activity - monitoring gadget the form of thing that can get you into shape , or is it just more debris in your jeans ?

Design
Adorable . It ’s about the size of a mickle of three living quarters , but with placid and rounded boundary . You wo n’t observe it in your sac ( or your sportsman bra , so I ’m told ) . A silicone polymer covered clip keeps it firmly attached to whatever . The screen is not illuminated .
Using It
Take it out of your pocket and scroll through a step - counter , the distance you ’ve traveled , estimated large calorie burned , and the time of daytime . Sync it with your computer or earpiece , then take in your stats , summate meals , log bodily process , and contend with friends via the Fitbit internet site or app .
The Best Part

Tragic Flaw
The apps are terrible , particularly the Android app . It pulls in some information from the cloud , and then completely misses other stuff . append meals is hunky-dory , but adding natural action is broken . Biking / cycling is not there . Needs a lot of work .

The Zip turned out to be more exact than we suspected it would be . We used a GPS app on our phone to test the distance against the Fitbit ’s estimate . The GPS register 0.41 miles , and the Fitbit got 0.37 . Four hundredths of a Admiralty mile is n’t speculative .
We also checked the truth of its step counterpunch . I counted 700 take the air steps . The Zip counted 733 . It ’s potential that my counting was a bit off , too , but even if it was n’t , that ’s pretty ripe .
The Zip should last for up to 6 months on a single lookout - sized bombardment , which is very easy to replace yourself . Nice to not have to concern about recharging .
The screen is reasonably gentle to understand by daylight , but it ’s not illuminated — in disconsolate situations , block it .
Would badge and competing with your friends really propel you ? That ’s for you to say .
Right now it can sync with a computer via a Bluetooth dongle , but it can only sync with speech sound that support miserable - might transfers via Bluetooth 4.0 . presently it only works with the iPhone 4S , the iPhone 5 , and the most recent iPad . Future Android devices that stomach that protocol will be include .

Should You Buy It?
