Andrew A. Kucher [ right ] with Anastas I. Mikoyan [ leave ] ( Life Magazine , 1959 )
In 1958 you ’d find no greater advocate for the hovercar than Ford frailty president Andrew A. Kucher . Kucher was on a medium safety blitz in the late 50s and other LX , being quoted in the New York Times , Wall Street Journal , Mechanix Illustrated , Chicago Daily Tribune , Popular Mechanics , Automotive Fleetand below inArthur Radebaugh‘s syndicated Sunday comedian , Closer Than We Think .
Kucher is credit with having conceive the theme of thehovertrainin the 1930s , a forerunner to today’sMaglevtrains which use attraction rather than compressed air to achieve a standardised effect . Newspapers from April , 1958 draw a three foot long hovercar model that was shown to reporter in Detroit . ride on a cushion of atmosphere , Kucher identify how this “ Glideair ” railcar could one day attain 200 - 500 miles per hour since it did n’t have tires which burn up and lose traction or dominance . An Associated Press piece even quotes Kucher as saying that such applied science would be in use in the “ foreseeable future . ”

For the love of Hugo ! If God had mean that we fell he would ’ve attachedpropellors to our foundation ! Amirite ? Amirite ? ! ! ? ! ? !
wait , pa , no wheels ! Use of a thin bed of compress air may allow for autos to hover and move just above ground spirit level .
A pipe aspiration ? Not at all . The conception ( already proved ) come from scientist Andrew Kucher , frailty - president of technology at one of our major motor companies . His people are studying how to observe stability . Special highway technology is one way of life . Another is skillful design , evidenced already in observational ideas from the staff of motor stylist George W. Walker .

Today ’s prosy cars wo n’t twist into blue flying carpeting in good order away . But it may happen earlier than we think !
As always , thanks to Tom Z. for the coloring scan of this panel from April 6 , 1958 .
