The craziest part is who was going to live instead : T - Dog .

This intellect - blowing near - decision was revealed by Walking Dead manufacturer and limited effect guru Greg Nicotero , in an audience by SFX magazine . TWD devotee will recall T - Dog ’s expiry during the zombi outbreak in the prison , when he basically sacrificed himself to aid Carol turn tail . Here , see it for yourself :

Not a luck of people know that when we were shooting season three , in the installment where T - Dog died , there was a bit where Carol was give out to die in lieu of T - Dog ’s character reference . At that point there was some worry in the author ’ room that they did n’t do it where to take her character reference . So the fact that [ showrunner ] Scott Gimple and the writers have been able to craft this amazing journeying for her just goes to show that there is a grand amount of report to tell for a lot of these characters .

This shove off my mind , because when T - Dog die , he ’d had maybe three lines of dialogue in the last two time of year combined , while Carol was still sue the red of her terrible married man and her not - terrible girl . And the walk Dead authorship staff thought they did n’t have any estimate where to take her character reference ? Compared to the the rich vein of narrative possibility that was T - Dog ?

Luckily , Scott Gimple came on panel as the new showrunner and turned Carol from a meek Midwestern mommy to the shockingly remorseless killing simple machine we know and love today .
