Great collaborative relationships simply just click — likeJack AntonoffwithLana Del ReyandTaylor Swift.

TheBleachersfrontman appeared on Thursday’sepisodeofLate Night withSeth Meyersand opened up about why he thinks his long-running creative partnerships with Swift, 34, and Del Rey, 38, are so significant. He explained that one thing he values in particular is how unafraid they are to get “loonier and loonier” with each release.

“I’ve had a few [relationships] — really Lana and Taylor — where we’ve worked for a long period of time and found this space where it’s like, it gets loonier and loonier and more exciting,” Antonoff shared.

The songwriter/producer — who has worked with Swift since 2014’s acclaimed1989and LDR since her 2019 magnum opusNorman F—— Rockwell!— attributed their ability to get more experimental in the studio to the longevity and comfort of their relationships. He said, “I’m really proud of those two because I think in my industry, there’s this endless rah-rah, pivot this way and that way.”

The Grammy winner also told the host, 49, that he sees similar qualities with his indie-rock band and inhis marriageto actressMargaret Qualley, who hetied the knot with in August. “It’s the same thing with my band, the record we just made. It ties into the marriage, too,” Antonoff revealed. “Like, I think a big theme is investing in long relationships. It makes me feel sweet.”

Antonoff’s collaborative relationship with both stars led to him being among the most-nominated artists at the 2024Grammy Awardswithsix total nominations.

For his contributions to Swift’sMidnightsand Del Rey’sDid You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Antonoff is nominated for the coveted producer of the year as well as album of the year for both releases, as well. Songs off the two projects also received nods: Del Rey’s “A&W” is up for song of the year, while “Anti-Hero” off Swift’s 10th studio album was recognized in both the song and record of the year categories.

The“Alma Mater”singer’s collaborators themselves have also expressed in the past how much they value working with him.

The pop star continued, “He’s so talented it’s incomprehensible. And I’m so lucky I’ve been making music with him since we worked on an album called1989. We’ll continue working together til' 2089."

While Antonoff is clearly a fan of working with his frequent collaborators, next year he’ll turn his attention to his own band. On March 8, Bleachers will release theirfifth studio album, a self titled effort (via Dirty Hit), and take the record on the road with aNorth American tour.
