SZAmay detail how she would like to dispose of her ex in “Kill Bill,” but when it comes to her personal life, she’s notoriously private about her relationships (and seemingly never dated anyone named Bill).
The “Snooze” singer has kept most of her love life out of the spotlight, which includes a brief romance withDrakeand a decade-plus-long relationship with her ex-fiancé, whose identity has never been confirmed.
Inhis 2020 song “Mr. Right Now,” Drake rapped about how he used to date SZA over a decade ago. “Yeah, said she wanna f— to some SZA, wait," he rapped. “‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ‘08.”
SZAlater clarified the timeline to 2009, making it clear she wasn’t underage at the time, since she turned 18 in November 2008.
During her SOS tour stop in London, SZA did get candid with her fans about her personal life when sherevealed that an ex had cheated on herin the city, though she clarified it wasn’t her ex-fiancé.
“I never told anybody, but like, my boyfriend cheated on me in this city before,” she said during the show, per a video on Capital XTRA’s Instagram. “It was terrible. That’s why I was really sad to come here, but you guys made it so much better. Thank you! This song is about my other trash ex-boyfriend.”

After Drake released “Mr. Right Now” in 2020, in which he referred to a 2008 relationship with the “Nobody Gets Me” artist, SZA took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to address rumors that she was underage at the time.
“So It was actually 2009 lol … in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered lol,“she wrote. “I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm … it’s all love all peace.”
SZA continued inanother post, “I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening. Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago.”
In an October 2023 interview withRolling Stone, SZAopened up about the relationship, sharing that it was more of a fling than something serious.
“We were really young,” she said. “It wasn’t hot and heavy or anything. It was like youth vibes. It was so childish.”
The two came together again when they collaborated on their2023 single “Slime You Out.”

Though SZA does not often speak of her past relationship, she has shared bits about her ex-fiancé, to whom she was engaged for five years and dated for 11. She toldRolling Stoneshe was “fresh from high school” when she first started dating the unnamed fashion designer, but had been on and off throughout the decade.
In a December 2023interview with Zane Lowe, SZA admitted that she only got into music thanks to her ex-fiancé, who was eight years older than her and helped her financially.
“[I] really only did music to prove a point,” she said. “When I started making music, it was to my ex-fiancé, because he was paying for everything. My food, my clothes, where I lived—and he was eight years my senior, so I was so codependent.”
As of October 2023, when theRolling Stoneinterview was published, the two had called it quits “five or six years” earlier, so she said he served as inspiration for many of the songs on her 2022 albumSOS.
“This particular song in entirety is a story about my ex-fiancé and how we went through all these arguments, and we broke up,” she said. “And when we first broke up, it was like terrible, and I just felt like I was gonna be doomed to be in hell for the rest of my life because nobody understood me the way he did, and nobody motivated me the way he did.”
She continued, “He was just this rock in my life that just no longer exists. The stories that I tell in that song about our arguments … That’s the theme on that. I feel like a lot of people don’t understand me but it’s okay.”
During a March 2023 show in Portland, SZA seemingly referenced her ex onstage, telling the audience that she wrote most of the songs she was playing about someone who lives in the city.
Two months later, in an interview withELLE, SZA shared thather ex’s father texted herfollowing the concert, and was upset that she called his son out onstage for blocking SZA’s number.
“My ex’s father just texted me and was like, ‘My son is really hurt about what you said about him to the crowd,’ " she said. “You don’t get to block me on everything. Tell our mutual friends terrible things about me like I’m a monster, or whatever the case may be. And then I don’t get to speak my piece in my way. You go do your healing and I’ll do mine.”
